'What's He Doing Working For Australia,' Stuart Broad on Andy Flower's Introduction

In what could be a major factor in the outcome of the upcoming The Ashes 2023, Cricket Australia (CA) roped in former Zimbabwe captain and England coach Andy Flower as a consultant. Flower will work with Australia's backroom staff for the ICC WTC Final 2023, and also be available for the second half of the Ashes series in England.

Flower had an impressive time with England as head coach between 2009 and 2014, winning as many as three Ashes series, including the famous 2010-11 series Down Under. The wicketkeeper-batter worked with England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) until 2019 in various capacities, before going freelance.

England pacer Stuart Broad, who blossomed under Flower, jokingly remarked that the former coach hopefully does not reveal secrets to the Australian camp. Speaking to PA, Broad stated that things have drastically changed within England's dressing room under Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes from the days of Flower.

Here's what Broad said

"What's he doing working for Australia? I didn’t know that. Andy is someone I learned a lot from early on in my career, he taught me a lot about how to stand up to the battle of Test match cricket. I really enjoyed working under him and winning Ashes series under him. He did a lot for English cricket in his time with Andrew Strauss as captain."

"Hopefully he doesn’t give away too many secrets! But the game has changed a lot in the last 12 months… I don’t think anyone knows any secrets on the way Brendon and Stokesy operate with this team. He’ll bring a lot of experience of Test grounds here and how the pitches play, I just hope he doesn’t share them."

Meanwhile, England was dealt with a massive blow in the form of Jack Leach, who is ruled out of the Ashes due to an injury. ECB named all-rounder Moeen Ali as Leach's replacement, who overturned his Test retirement.

The Ashes 2023 begins June 16 with the first Test being held at Edgbaston.
