With just a few hours to go, the buzz around ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2023 is at an all-time high. Both India and Australia will clash in the WTC Final at The Oval today and put their all in the line in a bid to lift the ICC Test Mace. While this is Australia's maiden outing in the final, India lost the inaugural WTC Final against New Zealand in 2021.

Former India great Sachin Tendulkar ahead of the WTC Final, spoke in brief about a floating idea pertaining to the future of WTC Final for the upcoming cycles. Many critics believe that the one-off Test is not the best criterion to determine a champion and that more Test should be played.

As quoted by ANI, the former Indian captain said if WTC Final does happen in a best-of-three affair rather than a one-off, it will be hard for ICC due to various constraints.

Here's what Tendulkar said

"To be honest I have not studied this properly but to be answering this question one should also have some awareness of the international calendar. I am not just talking about Test, ODI or T20 cricket I am talking about various leagues being played across the globe."

"If we are looking at the best of three then one would expect at least six to seven days of some practice before you play the first Test. So those seven days gone, one week gone then you play a five-day Test so seven plus five we go 12 then three days break that makes it 15 then you play the second Test match 20 days gone there already three days of rest again 23 and then five more days so best of three we are looking at 28 days, four weeks it’s not so easy to find a window where four weeks there is no action and not knowing which is going to be number 1 and number 2."

The 50-year-old went on to explain how organising all three Tests across different venues is impractical for ICC despite how promising it may sound.
