Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Harmanpreet Kaur spoke of her team's painstaking defeat in the must-win Eliminator clash against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Delhi on Friday (March 15) and emphasised that her wicket was the "turning point" of the game.

Chasing a modest target of 136, the defending champions were on course to win another final against Delhi Capitals (DC) with 16 more required off 13 balls and Harmanpreet and Amelia Kerr still to be separated for the fourth-wicket partnership.

However, as Harmanpreet walked back after being holed out in the deep, the rest of the MI line-up wilted under pressure and fell agonisingly close to the winning mark, ending with 130/6 in response to the opposition's 135/6 in a low-scoring thriller.

Harmanpreet said MI needed to be more calculative in their approach and back themselves to fetch one boundary at some point off the remaining deliveries and that would've eased all the pressure that they eventually crumbled to.

"In 12 balls we just needed one boundary and we were not able to get it," Harmanpreet said at the post-match presentation. "That is what this game always teaches you. It puts you under pressure and you have to keep learning from it. When we lost my wicket, after that our batters could not hold their nerve, that was the turning point."

The defeat meant that the previous year's winners left the title race ahead of the final after an "up and down" campaign, as described by Harmanpreet, with the skipper accepting her team never truly played consistent cricket to go the distance.

Mumbai won 5 of their eight league stage encounters to finish second on the table before suffering a gutwrenching loss in the Eliminator. The win for RCB set-up the WPL 2024 final for Sunday (March 17), when Smriti Mandhana & her girls face-off against the Capitals.
