According to recent rumors, the Indian Premier League (IPL), renowned as the most glamorous and coveted T20 league globally, is expected to relocate for the second phase of the tournament due to the upcoming elections.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released the schedule for only the first 21 games. The remaining matches have been postponed, citing the impending elections. Despite receiving the schedule for the first 21 games three weeks ago, the BCCI are yet to announce the dates for the rest of the matches, as the Election Commission of India has not yet finalized the election dates.

Dispelling the rumors, Arun Singh Dhumal, Chairman of the Indian Premier League, stated that the tournament will remain in India for its second phase. However, he acknowledged that the schedule will not be announced until the election dates are finalised.

Speaking to the media, Arun Singh Dhumal said:

“We are working closely with the government agencies, as soon as the dates of general elections are announced, we will figure out the further plan & hopefully the 2nd phase of IPL will take place in India only, it's not going anywhere else.”

The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League will consist of 74 games, featuring ten teams in the tournament. The inaugural match of the campaign is scheduled to take place at the Chepauk Stadium, pitting the five-time winners Chennai Super Kings against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

What to expect from IPL 2024?

Prior to the commencement of the tournament, there is considerable speculation surrounding the name of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team. Recent social media activity suggests the possibility of a name change. Additionally, a few players, including Jason Roy and Harry Brook, have withdrawn from the campaign citing personal reasons.

After this season, all teams will participate in a mega auction with the aim of building a solid foundation for the upcoming years.
