Peshawar Zalmi face-off against Islamabad United in the two team's final opportunity to book a place in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final with the much-anticipated Eliminator 2 clash scheduled for Saturday (March 16) at the National Stadium in Karachi.
Facing a defeat at the hands of table toppers Multan Sultans in the Qualifier, the Zalmi franchise is in for a must-win tussle now versus the team United that has the momentum and the confidence behind it after suppressing Quetta Gladiators comprehensively in the first Eliminator.
PES vs ISL: Team Previews
Peshawar Zalmi
The Zalmi require their batting to up its game under pressure after appearing out of steam and depth against the Sultans in Qualifier 1. Skipper Babar Azam's painstakingly slow knock of 46 off 42 deliveries gave the innings no impetus as the Zalmi finished 146/7 in their 20 overs, with 24 off 24 from Tom Kohler-Cadmore proving to be the next-best score.
That will have to change against the United if Peshawar are to resurrect their fortunes and clinch a victory in the must-win game. Babar will have to lead his troops from the front and give his bowlers a substantial enough score on the board to challenge the opposition.
Islamabad United
United managed to completely dominate their knock-out fixture against the Gladiators after extravagant New Zealand opener Martin Guptill produced a classy half-century (56) at the top and pushed his team to an imposing first-innings total of 174/9, including cameos from allrounder Agha Salman (31) and skipper Shadab Khan (18).
Their biggest positive, however, came in the bowling department as experienced allrounder Imad Wasim (3/12) dominated the wickets chart for the night and young fast-bowling prodigy Naseem Shah (2/33) also bagged two wickets.

PES vs ISL: Karachi Pitch Report
Heaven for batters who loved to hit through the line, the National Stadium in Karachi is renowned for its flat pitches and relatively small boundary dimensions, which means even miscues tend to travel the distance here. Despite coming to the end of the season, the ground is likely to retain its true characteristics and offer another solid turf where the pace and bounce are true and players can indeed back their strokes to fetch them fours and sixes consistently.
