Afghanistan suffered a forgettable loss at the hands of South Africa in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024, ending their dream run at Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad and Tobago on June 26.

Afghanistan captain, Rashid Khan asked South Africa to bowl first, sticking to their strength of putting up a good total and defending it.

However, things didn't go as planned for the Asians as South Africa came in all guns blazing with the ball and dismantled Afghanistan for just 56.

We didn't bat well: Rashid on why AFG lost Vs SA in semis

Captain Rashid Khan reflected on the game, admitting to not being good enough on the day, saying that they didn't bat well but being ready for such conditions is important.

"I think it was a tough night for us as a team and we could've done better than us. But conditions didn't let us do that but you should be mentally ready for any situation. I thought we didn't bat well," he said.

However, Rashid also praised how consistently they performed throughout the tournament despite losing Mujeeb ur Rahman to injury early on in the campaign,

"We were struggling when Mujeeb got injured, but Nabi and Fazal made our job as a spinning unit easier. The consistency in bowling was pleasing.

He concluded by reassuring the fans and the teams in the upcoming tournaments to be aware of them saying that they will only build on this.

"Next time when we participate in a tournament like this, we will have the belief. It's about how you manage yourself in those pressure situations against tough teams," he concluded.

Chasing a modest 57, South Africa cruised past with ease as they won the match by 9-wickets, thus, booking a spot in the finals.
