With just over a week remaining from the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), cricket fans and former players are excited as India and Australia face each other in a high-stakes Test series.

However, as the Indian team gears up, the main concern looms over the form of their former skipper, Virat Kohli. The star batter has faced severe criticism following a disappointing performance against New Zealand. He has been in the spotlight for his struggles against spin and inability to convert his start into big scores.

Suresh Raina Supports Virat Kohli Ahead Of BGT

Amidst all the criticism and talks, former cricketer Suresh Raina has come forward with staunch support for Virat Kohli. In an interview with Times of India, Raina emphasised Kohli's importance to the team and dismissed concerns regarding his dip in form.

Reflecting on Kohli’s recent struggles, Suresh Raina expressed unwavering confidence in the veteran batter’s ability to bounce back when it matters the most.

"The most important role will be of Virat Kohli. I remember when we went there in 2014-15, Virat made four hundreds. And at that time, all top cricketers were playing. I remember he made hundreds in both the innings of the Adelaide Test. I didn't play that game but was sitting outside and saw his ruthless approach. He was so strong with his body language. " Raina said.

"We need to give credit to New Zealand (for the whitewash). They played really well...Their cricketing ethics are very strong, in every sport. They played better than us, had good spinners...but we couldn't score much. Virat is doing really well, I think. We can't judge him from one series," Raina said in an interview with the Times of India.

It is worth mentioning that Kohli arrived early in Australia to prepare himself mentally for the challenge ahead. Though he did not hit the nets on Tuesday, (November 12), he is scheduled to have his first training session on Wednesday (November 13), at the iconic WACA Ground in Perth.

It is also important to note that the upcoming series against Australia carries immense significance for India, especially after the recent whitewash against New Zealand. The crushing defeat not only dented their confidence but also jeopardized their chances of making it to the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
