Virat Kohli has departed for Australia for India's upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series against the hosts. Team India is slated to play a series of five Test matches against Australia between November 22 and January 7.
Kohli recently took part in India's home series against Bangladesh and New Zealand, during which the legendary Indian batter managed to list just one fifty-plus score across all ten innings.
Kohli takes flight for crucial WTC points and batting redemption
Mere couple of weeks prior to India’s opening Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar series, legendary batter Virat Kohli was spotted taking flight for Australia from Mumbai. The cricketer is expected to join the rest of his teammates' Down Under', including the likes of fellow senior pros like Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, captain Rohit Sharma as well as his deputy Jasprit Bumrah.
Virat Kohli will enter the high-profile series with just one half-century in his past 10 Test innings. The legendary Indian batter tallied just 192 runs across five home Tests against Bangladesh and New Zealand at a dismal batting average of 21.33.
Kohli's batting struggles, along with Rohit Sharma's failure, compounded in India’s 0-3 drubbing at the hands of New Zealand at home. The defeat cost Team India its number one spot on the 2023-25 WTC points table, as they were toppled by Australia.
With crucial WTC points and a Border-Gavaskar title on the line, Virat Kohli will be aiming for redemption in batting in possibly his final Test trip to Australia. The 36-year-old holds a stellar record 'Down Under', having minted 1,352 runs in just 25 innings at an average of 54.08, i.e., considerably higher than his career average of 47.83 at the moment.
India's first Test of the series against Australia will commence from November 22 onwards at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
