Pakistan pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi has reclaimed the number one ranking on the latest ICC men’s ODI bowling charts. The 24-year-old paceman picked up eight wickets during Pakistan’s historic 2-1 ODI series win over Australia ‘Down Under’ last week.
Afridi soared past Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan, South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj as well as India’s enigma machine Kuldeep Yadav to achieve career-best ratings of 696 following his stellar show against Australia.
Pakistan achieves major boost before CT 2025
Several Pakistan cricket players, including premier fast bowler Shaheen Afridi, have achieved a major boost before the highly-anticipated 2025 Champions Trophy. Under the leadership of Mohammad Rizwan, the ‘Men in Green’ recently recorded a historic ODI series win in Australia.
While Haris Rauf bagged the ‘Player of the Series’ award for claiming 10 wickets in three matches, his pace mate Shaheen Afridi gained big on the latest ICC rankings by taking the number one spot. The 24-year-old fast bowler is now nine rating points clear of second-placed Rashid Khan on the rankings.
Rauf himself gained 14 rungs to jump to number 13 to occupy Pakistan’s next highest spot after Afridi.
Shaheen Afridi also covered good ground on the all-rounders charts by jumping up three places to take number 13 position. He surpassed the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Scotland’s Michael Leask and Australian paceman Josh Hazlewood in the process.
On the batting front, Babar Azam retained his number one spot for scoring 80 runs at an average of 80 in three games. Captain Mohammad Rizwan, on the other hand, jumped up two places to be ranked 23rd on the list for notching up a match-winning score in Perth on November 10.
As of now, the Pakistan cricket team is prepping itself to face Australia in a T20I series. The white-ball fixtures in Australia serves as a testing ground for the ‘Men in Green’ ahead of next year’s 2025 Champions Trophy.
