Virat Kohli and Australia, a match made on the cricket field. In recent times, Kohli has been woefully out of touch, but despite that, the Australian media has already started talking about Kohli, ever since he arrived in Perth, a couple of days ago.

Kohli's arrival in Australia is celebrated like a festival by their former players and media and that tells you about the aura that 'King Kohli' carries on and off the field. It was here in Australia where he smacked his first overseas Test ton. It was here on the Australian shores where he first captained India in whites and smashed 4 centuries in a series.

There is still 10 days left for the Border-Gavaskar series, and the media has already started to hype up Kohli by putting him on the front page of their newspapers. This is the kind of aura which no previous Indian cricketer had, and it is something to be cherished about. However, the love story between Kohli and Australia started on a tricky note during the 2011-12 series.

A young, but hot-headed Kohli had his fair share of fights with the Australian crowd on that series and was constantly mocked by the fans for his aggressive behaviour. However, it all changed during the 2014 tour, when he went toe-to-toe against the Aussies and smashed 692 runs in a 4-match series.

But why do the Aussies love Kohli so much? Is it because of his nature? Or is it because of his numbers against them?

King Kohli embodies Aussie style attitude

"I used to look at Virat and think he has that Aussie fighting spirit in him," Nathan Lyon, the Aussie cricketer once said about Kohli.

For years, opposition teams used to get bullied in Australia by their players, and the visiting team used to feel helpless. However, it all changed when Kohli led India in Australia. He was aggressive, he had that fighting spirit and he was on their face, taking on every challenge which was thrown at him.

This was a never seen visual in Australia. To see a young Virat Kohli, bullying Australia and giving them a taste of their own medicine was something no one imagined and that is when the Aussie realised that he was cut from a different cloth.

He has that Australian flair and he never shied away from sledging, something which they admired about the former India cricketer.

Hunger for success, just like them

Kohli is someone who backs his words with his performance. He just doesn't talk, but also shows his cricket skills on the field. This was proven on his first Test tour, when everyone else failed, and he was the only Indian to score a Test ton from India.

The trend continued in the 2014-15 tour, when he hammered 4 centuries and almost scored 700-runs as he garnered praise and love from the Australian experts and media. During the 2018-19 tour, Kohli scored one of his best Test tons on a spicy Perth wicket, and it was hailed by the Aussie media as one of the best centuries scored on Australian soil.

This sheer hunger for runs resembles what Australia cricket stands for. Just like the Australian players he wants to score runs and has the determination to succeed at any cost.

In 13 Tests in Australia, Kohli has racked up 1352 runs, with 6 centuries, at an average of 54.08. The numbers are impressive and it has come up against one of the most hostile attacks in world cricket.
