Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction in Jeddah on November 24 and 25, three-time finalists Royal Challengers Bengaluru's head of scouting, Malolan Rangarajan, shed light on RCB's scouting process.
RCB, which is known to have built players from scratch over the years, have a special process of scouting talent and nurturing them. Malolan revealed that the scouting process is more than just trials and training and it involves personality development and gaining confidence.
"Our camps are about more than just player evaluation—they're about building potential. By analysing current players and inviting promising talent from across the country, we form a solid team structure and boost every player’s game. This strategic approach ensures that every talent scouted has the best opportunity to grow and develop within the system," remarked RCB's scouting head.
Rajat Patidar, Asha Shobana Great Example Of RCB's Scouting
The scouting head cited examples of players like Rajat Patidar, Asha Shobana and Vyshak Vijaykumar. Notably, Patidar was the first uncapped player to smash a century in the IPL play-offs, while Asha emerged as the 2nd leading wicket-taker of WPL 2024 which was won by the RCB's women faction.
Meanwhile, Vijaykumar too rose to fame with RCB and he took 13 wickets in 11 matches as a replacement for Patidar in IPL 2023.
"Ultimately, RCB camps go beyond evaluation and training. It isn’t something that happens only once a year; we try to do it as many times as possible. This dedication to building talent and character ensures that RCB’s influence extends far beyond, creating champions in every sense of the word—not just for the IPL, but contributing significantly to India’s illustrious talent pool. The team will conduct two camps ahead of the WPL Auction, set to be held in December," he added.
It is to be seen who will RCB target in the upcoming auction as they have already retained Patidar for 11 crores.
