The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction is right upon us and after retaining the key players, all ten franchises have set their eyes on the auction day as it provides them a chance to build a strong team ahead of the next season.
Throughout the week, OneCricket will focus on the ten teams and their possible lineups for next season. However, in this piece, we look at 3 former RCB players who will go unsold in the upcoming mega auction. Some big names have also come up in the list as the Red Army prepare for the upcoming auctions.
3) Alzarri Joseph
Why Joseph will go unsold in mega auction?
Bought for INR 11.5 crores, expectations were high when Alzarri Joseph was bought by RCB during the mini auction last year. However, all the expectations were taken away when he failed to delivered the goods on a consistent basis.
He played just 3 matches, and had an average outing with the ball. The West Indian bowler picked up just a solitary wicket and conceded runs at an economy of 11.90. If teams are looking for quality overseas paces, they will have multiple options, and hence, Alzarri's stocks have fallen down as teams will look somewhere else in the pace bowling department.
2) Reece Topley
Why Topley won't get buyers in mega auction?
A quality bowler in every sense, Topley's main weakness is his injury record. In IPL 2023, he dislocated his shoulder and couldn't take part in the event. Even during the IPL 2024, he just played 4 matches and was innefective with his bowling.
Even at the international level, Topley has been troubled with repeatitive injuries and it has hampered his career. Hence, due to his injury track record, teams might not bid for the talented Englishman.
1) Glenn Maxwell
Why the experienced Maxwell will hgo unsold?
Maxwell had a poor IPL 2024 season and that will go against him in the upcoming aucton. In 10 matches, he could only score 52 runs, at an average of 5.78. He had three prolific seasons with RCB, but last season, he was a pale shadow of his former self. So much so, that the franchise dropped him from the team after a couple of matches.
Plus, he is 36 years old, and age is not by his side. Hence, investing in someone who is already at the twilight of his career won't be a smart move.
