RCB likely to use RTM on Faf du Plessis [Source: @ImTanujSingh/X.Com]
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) was one of those franchises who did almost everything right in the retention list. They retained three of their key players - Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal and let go off some of the older players ahead of the mega auction.
With only 36 crore gone, RCB still have 84 crore in their kitty to spend in the mega auction and if they use it wise, the team can build a strong core for the next season. The RCB team can also use upto three RTM cards to buy back the players they released during the retention list.
Hence, with the auction approaching thick and fast, we look at 3 possible candidates on whom RCB will use the RTM.
3) Faf du Plessis
Surely Faf du Plessis is 40 years old, but he is fitter than most of the cricketers in their 20s. Du Plessis played three seasons for the Bengaluru based side and alongside Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell was their best player. So much so, that during the 2022-23 season, he even outshined Kohli.
With age not on his side, teams may not spend too much on him, and hence, RCB have a chance to get back for a relatively low price, and his comeback will also solve the captaincy issue for the team.
2) Will Jacks
When Glenn Maxwell suffered a dip in form last season, RCB promoted Will Jacks in the playing XI and he didn't disappoint. The explosive all-rounder also scored a century in the league, a breathtaking knock which came up against Gujarat Titans.
Plus, with no Maxwell in the side, RCB need a like-to-like replacement and Jacks is the perfect option for it. He is young, dynamic and his batting prowess will be useful at the Chinnaswamy and hence, RCB should look to use the RTM on him.
1) Mohammed Siraj
When no one was there to support Mohammed Siraj in his bad days, RCB stood with him and supported him through the toughest of times. Hence, when Siraj was not retained, eyebrows were raised.
However, RCB have three RTMs and one of them should be used to get back Siraj. Quality Indian seamers are a rare commodity in IPL and Siraj is one of them. Surely he can be erratic with his lines and lengths, but when on song, he always delivers the goods for RCB.
He may fetch in between 7-10 crores and this is the amount which RCB should be willing to spend to buy back one of their loyal players.
