The much anticipated Border-Gavaskar Series is just around the corner as India gear up to take on Australia in a riveting 5-match Test series, starting on November 22. The series will put the two best teams in the WTC cycle against each other as the race to the finale heats up.
India, are coming into this series on the back of an embarrasing defeat at the hands of New Zealand, earlier this month, and as a result, they have to beat the Aussies, 4-0 to stand a chance of qualifying for the WTC finale.
The task won't be easy as the Indian side have been marred with injuries and key players being absent. There is no Rohit Sharma in the side due to the birth of his child, plus, Shubman Gill will miss the first Test due to a thumb injury. As a result, the onus of the bulk of scoring will once again fall on Virat Kohli.
The star player relishes playing against Australia and has 6 Test centuries, Down Under. India are likely to field an inexperienced lineup for the Perth Test and India's outcome will depend on how Kohli will perform in the match. Ahead of the Test, Kohli grinds himself in the nets and played some back-foot shots. He looked in ominous touch as he prepares for the Australian challenge.
Kohli hoping to end his run-scoring drought in Australia
The champion cricketer had a great 2023 as he smashed runs across formats. However, this year, the runs have dried up and the veteran batter struggled to replicate the 2023 form in the home season against Bangladesh and New Zealand.
In the series against the Kiwis, he even failed to score 100-runs across three matches, and had just one fifty-plus scores as India lost the series, 3-0.
Australia has always been Kohli's happy place and he'll hope for better returns when he steps onto the field on November 22.
