In a gripping encounter at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured a 20-run victory against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL 2024 season opener.

Opting to bat first, RR set a challenging target of 194 runs, propelled by an unbeaten knock of 82 runs from skipper Sanju Samson.

Reflecting on the match, LSG skipper KL Rahul expressed mixed sentiments. He remarked, "I don't think the target was above par." Despite a valiant effort from Rahul and vice-captain Nicholas Pooran, who stitched together a partnership of 95 runs, LSG fell short of the target.

KL Rahul reflects on LSG's defeat Vs RR

"When we were three for nothing, it was good to get us close. It’s still the first game of the season. We are bound to make mistakes not only in the first game but throughout this season. But we have to stay in the contest and try our best."

Rahul praised the performance of certain players, noticng Mohsin Khan &  Naveen-ul-Haq,

"Mohsin was our powerplay bowler last year. We missed him last year and it was nice to see him back. Naveen has been crucial for us. He swung the ball upfront and it was nice to see him do the job,” Rahul acknowledged.

Looking ahead to their next encounter, Rahul emphasized the importance of a strong start. "While chasing 200, we have to start well. But losing wickets upfront put us under pressure."

Rahul concluded optimistically, stating, "Langer has brought a lot of calmness into the group. I just stole a line from him. He keeps saying try to win games of cricket. Spending time in the middle was great. Missing last season was painful. I’m trying to leave it behind and try and win the IPL title for this group."

LSG will aim to bounce back as they face Punjab Kings (PBKS) on March 30 in their home ground in Lucknow. PBKS secured victory in their opening match against Delhi Capitals (DC) last Saturday.
