Brief Scores: Rajasthan Royals: 193-4 (20 overs) [Sanju Samson: 82* (52), Riyan Parag: 43 (29); Naveen-ul-Haq 2/41 (4), Ravi Bishnoi 1/38 (4)] defeated Lucknow Super Giants: 173-6 (20 overs) [Nicholas Pooran*: 64 (41), KL Rahul: 58 (44); Trent Boult 2/35 (4), Sandeep Sharma 1/22 (3)] by 20 runs.

Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals toppled LSG to bag their opening points on offer at Jaipur's Sawai Mansingh Stadium in match number four of the IPL 2024 season.

Samson packs 82, Parag makes 43 in Royals’ 193

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson made the most of opener Yashasvi Jaiswal's double-quick 24 in the powerplay despite Jos Buttler's early dismissal.

Earlier in the game, the Englishman nicked one to LSG keeper KL Rahul off Naveen-ul-Haq in just the second over of the innings.

Following Jaiswal's dismissal at the hands of an expensive Mohsin Khan (1-45), Samson soon took on the attack to his opponents by bashing an unbeaten 82 off 52 balls.

His dead-eyed tonking, comprising six sixes and three boundaries, catapulted the Royals to 193-4 after they completed their 20 overs.

Riyan Parag also netted 43 runs from 29 deliveries with three sixes in the middle order, before Dhruv Jurel's 12-ball 20* provided a methodical surge alongside captain Samson at the death.

Among LSG bowlers, apart from pacemen Mohsin Khan and Naveen-ul-Haq, spinner Ravi Bishnoi also contributed a wicket, that of Shimron Hetmyer, in the high-scoring Rajasthan Royals innings.

Pooran, KL Rahul wage fight but LSG falls short

Chasing 194 for a win, LSG lost three of its top four batters within the first four overs of the innings. Trent Boult removed Quinton de Kock and Devdutt Padikkal, while IPL debutant Nandre Burger took the wicket of Ayush Badoni.

Reeling at 11-3, soon to be 60-4 with the exit of Deepak Hooda by Yuzvendra Chahal, skipper KL Rahul took charge alongside middle-order star Nicholas Pooran. The two cricketers registered sparkling half-centuries and shared 85 runs for the fifth wicket.

Despite their middle-order fightback, timely breakthroughs from Ravichandran Ashwin and Sandeep Sharma kept Rajasthan Royals in the hunt. They secured a huge 20-run win to grab their opening points of the IPL 2024 season.
