Brief Scores: Delhi Capitals: 174-9 (20 overs) [Shai Hope: 33 (25), Abishek Porel: 32* (10); Arshdeep Singh 2/28 (4), Harshal Patel 2/47 (4)] lost to Punjab Kings: 177-6 (19.2 overs) [Sam Curran: 63 (47), Liam Livingstone: 38* (21); Kuldeep Yadav 2/20 (4), Khaleel Ahmed 2/43 (4)] by four wickets.

Punjab Kings capsized Delhi Capitals' uprising at Mullanpur by pulling off a comprehensive run-chase in match number two of the IPL 2024 season.

Abishek Porel blazes Capitals to 174

Invited to bat first, Delhi Capitals' Australia-based openers David Warner and Mitchell Marsh shaped rapid 20s in their boundary-laden top-order cameos inside the powerplay overs.

While the two cricketers shared 39 runs from 20 balls until Marsh's dismissal at the hands of Punjab Kings seamer Arshdeep Singh, number three batsman Shai Hope top-scored in the innings with a 25-ball 33 to his name.

After Warner was deceived by a slower bouncer from Harshal Patel at 74-2, the Mullanpur crowd gave a warm reception to Capitals skipper and comeback man Rishabh Pant.

The dashing wicketkeeper-batsman celebrated the occasion by unpacking a couple of gorgeous drives, including one off Patel before he was done-in by the speedster's lack of pace for 18.

Kagiso Rabada, Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar also delivered timely breakthroughs for Punjab Kings as the Capitals slipped to 128-6 at one stage of the innings.

Fortunately for the visitors, Axar Patel produced 21 off 13 to provide some run-scoring impetus in the death overs.

While Patel had his rebellion curtailed at 138-7 via an unfortunate runout, young Abishek Porel blasted four boundaries and two sixes in his unbeaten 10-ball 32-run cameo to blaze Capitals to a competitive 174-run total by the completion of their 20 overs.

Among Punjab Kings bowlers, speedsters Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel and Kagiso Rabada accounted for five wickets cumulatively, while spinners Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar chipped in with a wicket each.

Curran, Livingstone help PBKS seal chase with ease

Punjab Kings' firebrand openers Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow listed six fluent boundaries at the top before both fell in quick succession courtesy of Ishant Sharma in the fourth over of the innings.

Number three, Prabhsimran Singh defied Capitals seamers and Axar Patel for a while with his 17-ball 26 in a counterattacking partnership with Sam Curran. Kuldeep Yadav eventually bested Singh before the spinner accounted for Punjab Kings' newly appointed vice-captain Jitesh Sharma for nine.

With Kings struggling at 100-4, Englishmen Curran and Liam Livingstone steered their run-chase towards victory with a match-winning 67-run partnership.

While Curran top-scored with a majestic 63, Livingstone blasted three sixes in his thunderous 21-ball 38* to seal the deal with four deliveries to spare.
