Rajasthan Royals faced Lucknow Super Giants for their first fixture of the IPL 2024 season. RR captain Sanju Samson came to his team’s rescue with a resilient half-century and set a unique record of registering a big score in five consecutive IPL opening games.

Sanju Samson was summoned to the crease when dependable opener Jos Buttler was sent packing cheaply by LSG pacer Naveen Ul Haq.

To further add to the misery, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was looking dangerous from one end, fell prey to Mohsin Khan’s short pitched delivery.

Regardless, Samson launched a rescue mode and used his experience to deal with the situation carefully and smartly. Sanju shoved the bad deliveries to meet timely boundaries whilst respecting the good ones.

He raced through his half-century in a mere 33 balls and extended his unique IPL record. In these past five IPL seasons, Sanju Samson has maintained a commendable streak of scoring big in his first games.

In 2020, he scored a fifty and followed it up with a hundred in his first IPL game in 2021. In the following three consecutive years, including the recent one, Samson successfully scored a half-century in his respective tournament inaugural games.

It is indeed a unique record that Sanju Samson not only managed to achieve but also maintained for five long years.

That being said, the captain’s job is not yet done. With wickets tumbling from one end, its important for him to stay deep and finish in style to post a formidable total on board for Rajasthan Royals.
