Saba Karim expects more consistency from Gill [X]
Former Indian cricketer and selector Saba Karim expects Shubman Gill to be more consistent with the bat in T20Is.
Gill enjoyed stellar success as the T20I captain in the recently concluded five-match series against Zimbabwe.
The stylish batter, who captained India in the senior players' absence, led them to a clinical 4-1 series victory over the Chevrons.
'I was expecting more consistency from Gill' - Saba Karim
Karim was impressed with Gill's leadership attributes that ensured India's remarkable comeback after a disastrous defeat in the first T20I.
However, the former keeper-batter reckoned Gill should've cemented his place by performing consistently with the bat in the series.
"Shubman Gill as a captain and a batter; I was expecting a little more consistency in Shubman Gill's batting. That was a little lacking. However, he performed fantastically as a captain. Pressure mounts on any captain after losing the first match, and that too a young captain," Karim was quoted as saying by The Hindustan Times.
Notably, Gill was the top-scorer in the series, amassing 170 runs at an average of 42.50 in the Zimbabwe series.
However, despite slamming two fifties, the batter faltered on the other three occasions, with his scores reading 31, 2 and 14.
Up next, Gill will be in action during India's upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka. With Rohit Sharma likely to rest, the Punjab batter is in contention for ODI captaincy alongside KL Rahul.
