According to the report of Press Trust of India, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has stated that star cricketers must be available for domestic engagements when not on national duty. However, exceptions will be made for Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah.

The BCCI expects all other Test specialists to participate in at least one or a couple of Duleep Trophy games in August to prepare for the upcoming Tests against Bangladesh and New Zealand.

"This time there is no zonal selection committee for Duleep Trophy. Only national selection committee will pick Duleep teams. All Test team contenders will be picked. For Rohit, Virat and Bumrah, it will be their choice if they want to play or not," the source added.

Earlier, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were excluded from the central contract due to their failure to participate in domestic engagements despite a BCCI directive.  Jay Shah revealed that the decision to exclude the duo from the list of centrally contracted players was made by the chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar.

Kishan took an extended break after the ODI World Cup and remained unavailable until the IPL, while Iyer did play a few matches for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, including the semifinal and the final.

However, in a recent statement by Jay Shah, the BCCI has directed all cricketers to participate in domestic cricket whenever they are free from national duty. Only Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah are allowed to skip domestic cricket.
