As per emerging reports, ace all-rounder Hardik Pandya will likely opt out of the upcoming One-Day International series against Sri Lanka owing to personal reasons. 

According to Indian Express, the experienced cricketer won't likely feature in the ODIs; however, he might captain the Men in Blue in the three-match T20Is, starting later this month. 

Meanwhile, India's newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir is keen to have all the senior players - Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja- for the Sri Lanka ODIs. 


Pandya out, Kohli, Jadeja and Rohit in? 

While Rohit, Kohli and Jadeja have retired from T20Is, Bumrah continues to be India's most significant asset across formats. 

So, considering the fast bowler's proneness to injuries, the BCCI might not want him to rush before the all-important home season, starting with India's two-match Test series against Bangladesh. 

If Rohit returns, he will lead the team, with veteran batter KL Rahul performing the keeping duties.

Meanwhile, large doubts loom over Rishabh Pant's participation, given he recently recovered from a major life-threatening accident. 

If Pant isn't picked, Sanju Samson will be the second wicketkeeper for the ODI series. On the contrary, if Pant gets in, Samson might also make it into the team as a pure batting option. 

On the other hand, Gautam Gambhir's appointment might lead to Shreyas Iyer's comeback to the ODI team. 

Despite losing his Central Contract, Iyer adds immense value to the Indian ODI team, having performed exceedingly in the 50-over format. 

Among others, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh will likely be picked for the ODI leg. 

In Pandya's absence, India might pick either Shivam Dube or Rinku Singh to play as the finisher.
