After a high-scoring IPL match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lucknow Super Giants, India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant shared his thoughts on the upcoming five-match Test series against England. He said he wants to take a few days off to unwind before leaving for the UK.
Pant led LSG to lose their last fixture against RCB to bow out of the IPL 2025 season. Despite scoring 227 runs, the bowlers failed to defend it as Jitesh Sharma (85) and Mayank Agarwal (41) stole the show in the entertaining chase.
Meanwhile, now with the IPL 2025 season over for LSG, Pant is committed to shifting his focus to national duties, especially with a big Test tour to England on the cards.
Rishabh Pant To Unwind Before England Test Series
India is set to tour England in June for a 5-game Test series. With seniors like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired, Shubman Gill will captain the side, and Rishabh Pant will be his deputy as vice-captain.
Before the team departs, Pant revealed that he wishes to take a few days off cricket and unwind. He insists on being mentally prepared before taking on a big challenge.
"Just want to switch off for a few days, not think about cricket and then the England series is coming up-just preparing for that in a good frame of mind," Pant said.
Interestingly, Pant, who struggled throughout the IPL 2025 season, regained some form in the last game vs RCB, scoring a magnificent ton (118 off 61).
The England tour will be important as it marks the beginning of India’s World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle. Pant’s appointment as vice-captain is a big step in his comeback journey after recovering from a serious car accident in 2022.
Why Was Pant Selected As India’s Vice Captain?
Rishabh Pant has been made vice-captain of India's Test team for the England series with chief selector Ajit Agarkar pointing out the keeper's acute game awareness and batting ability. Describing Pant's inclusion, he added that a keeper is able to view the game well. Despite a quiet IPL 2025, Pant’s leadership skills and experience behind the stumps earned him a crucial role alongside newly named skipper Shubman Gill.
