Official: Rishabh Pant Replaces Jasprit Bumrah As India's New Test Vice-Captain

In a significant development, India's star-keeper batter Rishabh Pant has been appointed as the new vice-captain in Test cricket, replacing Jasprit Bumrah. During the press-conference ahead of the crucial England tour, selector Ajit Agarkar announced the appointment of Pant as India's new vice-captain, who will serve as Shubman Gill's deputy for the new cycle.

Rishabh Pant was also in the race to become India's Test captain but the selectors went ahead with Shubman Gill, who has become India's 37th captain in the history of Test cricket. However, it is also worth noting that the decision didn't go well with the fans as they felt that Pant deserved to lead India as he has been a better performer than Gill in the red-ball cricket.

While the debate is never-ending, the reason behind Pant replacing Bumrah is because the right-arm seamer won't be available to play all five Test matches, which is a concerning sign for the WTC runners-up. 

India's Squad For England Tour

It is worth noting that it will be after a long time that the Indian team will be without Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli in the Test squad, which led to Shubman and Pant's appointment as India's new Test captain and vice-captain. Let's look at the squad for the upcoming series. 

Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudarshan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd Siraj, Prasiddh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav.

Talking about Jasprit Bumrah's availability, he is expected to play three Test matches for the upcoming England tour keeping his workload management in mind.
