Former RCB captain and South African batter Faf du Plessis has thrown his weight behind Virat Kohli while the latter struggles with form. Du Plessis stated that Kohli had an abundance of motivation and would bounce back stronger in no time.
Virat Kohli, once regarded as one of the finest modern-day talents, is struggling to correct his technical flaws in Test cricket. In the previous series against Australia, Kohli could muster only 195 runs in five games, out of which 100 runs came during the first Test in Perth.
With India falling short in the World Test Championship 2025 final contention, Kohli’s retirement rumours have become rife. Apparently, BCCI is keen on overhauling the Test set up in the aftermath of two back-to-back shameful series defeats against New Zealand and Australia.
Faf Du Plessis backs Virat Kohli amid criticism over bad form
But former teammate and RCB captain Faf du Plessis, who is close to Kohli, came to his rescue. In an interview, he stated that Virat Kohli is a super-motivated guy who is no stranger to setbacks. The 36-year-old has experienced many lean patches in his career, and Faf believes that Kohli would break free from this one soon.
"Virat Kohli is a super motivated guy. He's gone everything before. I know he can overcome and he will comeback," du Plessis said.
However, time is indeed running out for Virat Kohli. He is unlikely to make it to India’s squad for a Test tour to England in June if he fails to prove himself in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. Regarding retirement, the 36-year-old is not bothered by the thought as he wishes to continue serving his country.
Gautam Gambhir breaks silence on Rohit Kohli’s retirement
Following India’s series loss to Australia, head coach Gautam Gambhir allowed free will to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to take a call on their future in Test cricket. Gambhir said that both seniors have the hunger and passion to contribute. However, as for retirement, he won’t interfere in that matter as both the seniors are capable of making the best decision on their future.
