Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan joins Afghanistan as mentor for Champions Trophy 2025. The ex-Pakistan international, who plundered over 10,000 runs in his marvellous Test career, has agreed to share some of his experiences with Rashid Khan and co. for the big ICC tournament.

Afghanistan made a statement by qualifying for the semi-finals of the 2024 T20 World Cup, scripting history. They outqualified Australia before losing the semis to South Africa.

However, before the 2025 Champions Trophy, Afghanistan will be spirited. With Rashid Khan and Co. also maintaining their momentum, there would be a graver need to prove themselves in international cricket. To gain that additional momentum, the team recently promoted a senior figure to support staff.

Younis Khan returns to Afghanistan's coaching set up

Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan is to be one of the mentors to the national side in Champions Trophy 2025, as was announced by Afghanistan Cricket Board. Famous for 10,099 runs made in 118 Test matches, Khan also once worked as a batting coach of Afghanistan, taking up that responsibility in 2022.

Since retiring from international cricket, Younis has been busy in various coaching jobs, including Pakistan Super League side Peshawar Zalmi and Abu Dhabi T10 League franchise Bangla Tigers.

The eight teams will be divided into two groups for the Champions Trophy 2025, which will take place from February 19 to March 9. Afghanistan has been placed in the challenging Group B, which includes Australia, South Africa, and England. Group A will consist of hosts Pakistan, arch-rivals India, New Zealand, and Bangladesh.

England advised to boycott Afghanistan

Shockingly, the England cricket team is being asked to boycott their Champions Trophy 2025 group-stage match against Afghanistan. The call for the boycott, which has nothing to do with cricketing issues, comes from the Taliban regime's continued curbs on women's rights in Afghanistan.

Sky News reported that more than 160 UK politicians have urged the England and Wales Cricket Board to boycott playing against Afghanistan as a protest against the oppressive policies of the Taliban, especially their ban on women participating in sports.
