New Zealand has secured a win in the 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka and have sealed the three-match series with one game remaining. The hosts have played brilliantly in the series and have outclassed the visitors in all the departments. 

Sri Lanka batted first in the game and invited New Zealand to bat first in the match. Players like Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman carried the Kiwi batting. The duo played blazing knocks at the top, setting the tone for a formidable total.

It was a rain-interrupted affair, and as a result, both sides were allotted 37 overs. At the end of their quota of overs, New Zealand posted 255/9.

Sri Lanka Failed To Get Close To The Target Despite Kamindu's Efforts

During the chase, Sri Lanka lost their three wickets in quick succession and were in trouble. At this stage, Kamindu Mendis stabilised the ship for his team. Mendis scored 64 runs off 66 deliveries and propelled the innings for some time. However, he fell, which triggered a major collapse for the team. 

During the collapse, one of the wickets was that of Eshan Malinga. In the last ball of the 29th over, Will O'Rourke bowled a good length delivery at the off-stump line. Malinga cleared his front foot and swung across the line. The ball flew off the outside edge of Malinga's bat and went towards the third-man region.

Nathan Smith Takes The Catch Of The Century

Nathan Smith was the fielder stationed deep in the field. The fielder ran to his right and then dived to take a stunning catch. It was a once-in-a-lifetime effort by Smith, and it really impressed all the fans. 

In the end, Sri Lanka were bundled out for 142 runs in the 31st over of the innings. Thus, New Zealand won the game by 113 runs and sealed off the series.
