After a dominant first ODI win against Sri Lanka, New Zealand bagged another comfortable victory against the Asalanka-led side making it 2-0 and nailing the ODI series win. The rain-affected match which was cut short to 37 overs was triumphed by the Kiwis with a margin of 113 runs.

New Zealand had its early scare with 1st ODI's hero Will Young, falling early in the fifth over leaving the Kiwis reeling at 31-1. However, Rachin Ravindra stepped up to salvage the team with his brilliant 79 off 63 balls. He partnered with Mark Chapman for 112 runs to hold the fort for the Kiwis.
Ravindra reached his fifty quickly with 9 boundaries and a single six from his inning and helped the team stabilise with a big total before he was dismissed in the 23rd over by Wanindu Hasaranga.

Maheesh Theekshana delivered a game-changing spell, dismantling New Zealand's batting lineup with a sensational hat-trick. His heroics began in the 35th over when he dismissed Mitchell Santner for 20 runs. On the very next ball, Theekshana removed Nathan Smith, forcing a risky shot that ended in Kusal Mendis' safe hands at deep cover.
The hat trick was sealed as Theekshana deceived Matt Henry with a full-length carrom ball outside off-stump. Henry misjudged the delivery and his drive ended in a diving catch by Nuwanidu Fernando at long-off. In the match, Theekshana bagged his 4-fer dismantling the Kiwi middle order at an economy rate of 5.50.

The Kiwi bowlers combined to give the Sri Lankan batters a hard time. The Lankan batters started losing wickets from the second over and by the end of 5th over, they were reeling at 22-4. Coming in after 3 wickets, Kamindu Mendis showed some resistance with the bat and delivered a 64-run knock for his team that injected some life into Sri Lanka's chase.
However, Mendis' resistance didn't continue for long and he was dismissed by William O'Rourke in the 29th over dashing all hopes for the Charith Asalanka-led team.

William O'Rourke was the pick of the Kiwi bowlers with his 3-fer at an economy rate of 4.89. However, Matt Henry and Jacob Duffy's contributions can not be forgotten as they were responsible for crushing Sri Lanka from the very beginning.
Nathan Smith and Mitchell Santner also contributed with one wicket each to end all hopes for Sri Lanka. Rourke nailed Sri Lanka's coffin with his final wicket of Maheesh Theekshana bundling them out for 142 runs and winning the match by a massive margin of 113 runs.
