Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has sharply criticized the national team following their disappointing exit from the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

Pakistan's campaign was marred by defeats to underdog USA and arch-rival India, which left them struggling to advance despite subsequent wins against Canada and Ireland.

Kaneria Slams Team Selection And Overdependence On Babar-Rizwan

"You select the useless team and repeatedly depend on Babar-Rizwan, Babar-Rizwan, what is this? Till when we will tolerate these names. Whenever any major tournaments come, they fail to create that impact. They only score runs against teams like Zimbabwe and Ireland and they start comparing Babar Azam with Virat Kohli," Kaneria stated.

Kaneria highlighted Pakistan's overreliance on the batting pair of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, who failed to perform in crucial matches.

Babar averaged 40.66 with a strike rate of 101.66, while Rizwan managed an average of 36.66 at a strike rate of 90.90 during the tournament. Their inability to deliver in key games has led to growing criticism.

Criticism Of PCB And Team Dynamics

Reflecting on Pakistan’s overall performance, Kaneria didn't hold back in his criticism of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He called out the board for assembling what he referred to as a "useless team" and for the ongoing comparisons between Babar Azam and Indian cricket star Virat Kohli.

"You decided to bring in a new coach, Gary Kirsten, who helped India win the World Cup and cannot do wonders in just a few months. He's not a magician. In Pakistan cricket, politics is everything. Gary will need a lot of time to understand the politics and accordingly, he'll start working," added Kaneria.

Pakistan's early exit has sparked speculation about potential changes in both team composition and management.
