On June 18, 2024, at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St. Lucia, the West Indies cricket team created history.

In a thrilling Group C encounter against Afghanistan, the Windies registered their highest team total in T20 World Cup history, amassing an impressive 218/5 in 20 overs.

West Indies Achieve Their Highest Team Total In T20WC

The West Indies' previous highest total in T20 World Cups was 205/6, achieved against South Africa during the first edition of the tournament in 2007 in Johannesburg.

This outstanding performance by the West Indies is the highest team total in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

Nicholas Pooran played a crucial role in this record-breaking innings, propelling the West Indies to surpass the highest total of 201, set by Australia and Sri Lanka earlier in the tournament. Australia's 201/7 was scored against England in Bridgetown, while Sri Lanka's 201/5 came against the Netherlands at Gros Islet.

The Windies' explosive start saw them score a staggering 92 runs during the Powerplay, setting a new record for the highest Powerplay total in Men's T20 World Cup history. This feat eclipsed the previous best of 91 runs by the Netherlands against Ireland in the 2014 edition of the tournament.

While the T20 World Cup 2024, co-hosted by the United States and the Caribbean, has generally favored bowlers with many low-scoring thrillers, there have been three notable 200+ scores in the group stages.
