“They Obviously Like The Food…”: Vaughan Trolls 'Inexperienced' India After Lord’s Defeat

Team India slipped to a 22-run defeat on a thrilling Day 5 against England in the third Test of the five-match series. Chasing 193 runs for a win, Team India lost four wickets before stumps on Day 4, and lost another three in quick succession within the opening hour of Day 5. India also lost Nitish Kumar Reddy at the break of lunch break to reach a precarious 112-8.

Similarly in the first Indian innings of the Lord’s Test, the visitors lost the huge wicket of well-set wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant to a runout mere moments before the lunch break on Day 3. Addressing India’s pre-lunch collapses, former England captain Michael Vaughan recently trolled the Indian team during a conversation with fellow commentator Dinesh Karthik.

“Shubman Gill Will Be Concerned…” Predicts Vaughan

Former England captain Michael Vaughan recently joked at the expense of India’s pre-lunch collapses after the visitors fell to a 22-run defeat at Lord’s. The prominent commentator also claimed that Indian batters seem to be losing concentration when they are nearing a break, and cited “inexperience” in the group behind their unfortunate collapses.

While speaking with Dinesh Karthik at a Cricbuzz show, Vaughan said:

“They obviously like the food here. The thing about the lunches is that they can have them if they’re obviously dismissed. That’s just (loss of) concentration. You’ve played enough cricket to understand that. The more you think about batting differently towards the end of a session, the more you’re probably going to get out. You’ve just got to naturally play. Just naturally play. That’s just a mentality thing that this team has to get better at. I guess the inexperience of the group; They’re an inexperienced group.”

Michael Vaughan further predicted that Indian captain Shubman Gill will be concerned about the collapses, and said that teams cannot win many Test matches after losing wickets in clusters. He added:

“Gill will be slightly concerned about that collapse, the first innings collapse down the back end, the little collapse last night and then another three quick wickets this morning. You don’t win many Test matches when you lose so many wickets in clusters. That’s something that India can’t afford in the last two games.”

With series on the line, a battered-and-bruised Indian team will now face England in the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester between July 23 and July 27.
