Pakistan skipper, Babar Azam surpassed the inaugural T20 World Cup winning captain, MS Dhoni to become the player with the most runs scored in the T20 World Cups as a captain on Sunday, June 16 as Pakistan finished their 2024 campaign with a win over Ireland.
Pakistan, after winning the toss at Lauderhill asked Ireland to bat first and went on to restrict them to 106/9. During the run chase, despite the continuous wickets from the other end, Babar stuck to one end as Pakistan chased down the target with 3 wickets left.
Azam scored an unbeaten 32 off 34 which included two fours and went past both, Kane Williamson and MS Dhoni on the same day to become the captain with the most runs scored in the history of T20 World Cups, while taking just 17 innings.
The 29-year-old scored 122 runs in this World Cup in the 4 innings played at and average of 40.66 with 8 fours and 3 sixes meanwhile breaking into the top 5 of the list and subsequently topping it before leaving for Pakistan.
