India are all set to take on England in the opening T20I of the five-match series at the Trent Bridge stadium. Both teams have plenty of superstars in their line-up and have been involved in some great battles over the years.
Also, England will host the T20 World Cup in 2026. Thus, the series is a good opportunity for the Indian team to get a taste of English conditions and use this five matches as a chance to find players for the next T20 World Cup.
Mandhana Wants India To Keep T20 WC 2026 In Mind
Now, ahead of the first T20I, Smriti Mandhana has also stressed on the fact that the series would help India prepare for the next T20 World Cup. The Indian vice-captain, while speaking to the ICC, mentioned that the World Cup next year would be held around the same time. Thus, the five matches would help them gauge the conditions and understand what would suit their game better.
"Since we have a T20 World Cup next year around the same time, around the summer of UK, which is again similar conditions, I'm sure the five T20Is will be a good prep for a lot of the girls and for us also to see to the conditions and how they suit our game too.”
Smriti Mandhana also stated that they had 25 days of preparation at the NCA in Bengaluru. She also added that the preparation in the camp at NCA was quite targeted and specific, keeping exactly the conditions in England in mind.
"It's been a good 25 days of prep, we had batters and bowlers camp at Bangalore at NCA and that was also very targeted and specific, keeping in mind this tour."
Overall, India have a lot to gain from the tour of England. The five T20Is would be followed by three ODIs, which would help both teams prepare for the 50-over World Cup in India and Sri Lanka this year.
