In a remarkable achievement, experienced Indian batter Smriti Mandhana has reclaimed the first position in the updated ICC Women's ODI batting rankings. The southpaw dethroned South African mainstay Laura Wolvaardt to attain the landmark.

Mandhana Scripts History; Becomes No. 1 Ranked ODI Batter

Earlier today, the International Cricket Council (ICC) updated the ODI rankings of the Women's cricketers. Talismanic Indian batter Smriti Mandhana attained stellar heights, as she claimed the numero uno position, dethroning Laura Wolvaardt.

It's worth mentioning that Mandhana has become the number one batter for the first time since 2019 after a long six-year hiatus. While Wolvaardt lost 19 rating points, Mandhana's batting exploits in the recently held Tri-Series helped her reign supreme on the elite list.

The flamboyant opener was India Women's most successful batter in the Tri-Nation tournament, amassing 264 runs across five outings at an average of 52.80 and a strike rate of 90.41. She starred for India Women in the final, powering them to an emphatic 97-run win over the hosts in a one-sided contest at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Wolvaardt, on the other hand, couldn't live up to her potential in the recently concluded series against West Indies. The top-order batter recorded scores of 27 and 28, experiencing an evident downfall in the ICC rankings.

Currently, Wolvaardt is placed second along with English legend Nat Sciver-Brunt. Her South African teammates Tazmin Brits (up five spots to 27th) and Sune Luus (up seven places to 42nd) are among the significant gainers in the updated ICC rankings for Women.

Meanwhile, Shemaine Campbelle (up 7 places to 62nd), Qiana Joseph (up 12 rungs to 67th), Afy Fletcher (up 4 spots to 19th), Nonkululeko Mlaba (up six rungs to 23rd) and Chloe Tryon (up six places to 45th) are some of the biggest movers in the ICC rankings for batters and bowlers.
