Shikhar Dhawan will go down as one of the finest openers in ODI cricket for India. He played a big role in India's win in the Champions Trophy 2013 and delivered some match-winning performances in his long career across formats.
The left-handed batter has retired from the game now and is seen in different events across the world. The cricketer is also ready to let people dive deeper into his life with a book called “The One: Cricket, My Life and More”, in which he has shared insights of his journey so far.
Shikhar Dhawan Expresses His Admiration For Dhoni In His Book
Now, the Indian Express has shared some excerpts from the book. One of them is Shikhar Dhawan sharing his first impression of MS Dhoni when he joined the Indian team for the ODI series against Australia in 2010.
Dhawan wrote in his book, as per PTI, that he wanted to cast MS Dhoni in a Bollywood movie as he looked exactly like a film star with his long hair and smile. The southpaw stated that he was having a general chat with MS Dhoni about his motivation as a cricketer. Suddenly, the serious talk transformed into laughter as Dhawan told his captain that he wanted to make him a Bollywood hero.
“I wanted to cast him in a Bollywood movie; he looked like a film star with that long hair and easy smile. We were having a chat about my motivation when I suddenly blurted out, ‘I want to play for India and I want to make you a Bollywood hero!’ He threw back his head and laughed,” Dhawan wrote in the book as per PTI, quoted by Indian Express.
The interaction shows that Shikhar Dhawan did not shy away from his carefree and jolly nature, even in his first series as an international cricketer. His debut did not go well, but Dhoni backed him. Eventually, the cricketer started scoring runs for India consistently across formats from 2013, proving himself as a genuine match-winner for India.
