India A captain Shubman Gill opened up on his side's mistakes after India B crushed them by 76 runs in the first group-stage match of the ongoing Duleep Trophy season. On Sunday, India B registered a clinical victory over the A team, courtesy of a bowling masterclass from their pacers.

Chasing a daunting 275-run target, India A were bowled out for 198 runs, as Yash Dayal emerged as their nemesis with a sensational three-wicket haul. Besides KL Rahul and Akash Deep, none of the India A batters could breach the 40-run mark, letting their team down in the high-octane face-off.

After the game concluded, Shubman Gill credited Musheer Khan for his stunning batting performance in the first innings

He also regretted delaying the short ball ploy against Navdeep Saini, who bailed India B out of trouble through a mammoth eighth-wicket stand with the centurion.

"The last session of Day 1 and first session of Day 2 was the game changing moments for us. The bowlers got tired because the season just began and Musheer batted brilliantly in the first Innings," Gill said in the post-match presentation.

"We should have planned a bit better I felt. We went on the short ball plan to Saini a bit later and that turned out to be costly for us. Well despite being behind in the game, I think we fought back well in the 2nd Innings," he added.

Shubman Gill hails KL Rahul for his valiant knock

Gill also revealed that India A could've chased the target had their batters spent some time in the middle. He lauded KL Rahul for his composed knock while noting the key lessons from this game.

"Well we definitely thought of chasing down this target. We required a 100-run partnership badly to keep ourselves in the game for the run chase. When KL Rahul and Kuldeep were batting, we were hoping if they can stick around because you never know, Rahul bhaiya can pull it off for us especially he is so good at this venue. We did not get it; never mind, we will learn from this one," he concluded.

After losing the opening encounter, India A will face India D in their next game in the tournament. Led by Shreyas Iyer, India D also had a disappointing start to the competition, losing their first match by four wickets against Ruturaj Gaikwad's India C.
