'Saved Our Best For The Final'- Pat Cummins Speaks After Australia's Thumping Win

In a remarkable achievement, Australia crushed India by six wickets to win their sixth World Cup in the ODI format. Bowling first, Australia restricted India to a sub-par 240-run total, as the bowlers put up a commendable show. In response, the Aussies chased the target with seven overs to spare, riding on Travis Head's sensational century.

After Australia's thumping win, skipper Pat Cummins credited his troops for an incredible performance in the final. He expressed his emotions, revealing how they planned properly to counter India in their backyard.

"Yeah. That's it. I think we saved our best for the last. A couple of big match players stepped up. We were batting first for the most part of the tournament. We thought the wicket would get better as the game progressed. It didn't spin. Everyone adjusted well and bowled nice lines and lengths," Cummins said.

"On a slow wicket like that, there is a variable bounce. A few catches in the leg side and try some luck. They were desperate for sure. Really chuffed with 240. Anything under 300 would have been nice and would have been good to chase on that wicket", he added.

Talking about Australia's batting, Cummins lauded Travis Head, who struck a belligerent 120-ball 137 in the all-important game. He also applauded Marnus Labuschagne, who kept his cool to assist Head during the tense run chase.

"Marnus walked in with a cool head. Travis does what he does the best. To take on the bowling in the biggest of stage is incredible. The selectors backed him despite a broken head. Also, the medical team to bring him back and he is an absolute legend and I couldn't be more happier," Cummins stated.

When asked how he motivated his teammates after crushing defeats in the first two matches, Cummins said,

"You gotta go and win the World Cup. You can't wait for things to happen. We made the change. The openers stepped up and scored at a good rate. The bowlers did a fine job as well. This year will be the one that will be remembered for a long time. I spent most of the winter away from home but it is great to get the win."

Up next, these two teams will go up against each other in a five-match T20I series starting on the 23rd of this month.
