Steve Smith was delighted after Australia’s thumping six-wicket victory over India on Sunday (November 19) in the World Cup 2023 final at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

The former Australian skipper highlighted Australia's recent success, which came after their World Test Championship (WTC) title, which came against the same opposition in England.

After restricting India to 240, Australia rode on Travis Head’s outstanding 120-ball 137 against the Men in Blue under lights to get the job done with seven overs to spare. Marnus Labuschagne played valiantly as well, remaining not out on 58 off 110 balls, as Australia recovered in style after slipping to 47/3 earlier.

Here's what Steve Smith said to the broadcasters

“It's incredible; the atmosphere was amazing here. It's a great performance, as David said bowlers set up the tone with the way Head played when we were 3 down and the way Marnus soaked up the pressure. It was not an idle start for us for the World Cup, but we did pretty well. It is a dream come true for us, as we won the WTC and now the ODI World Cup."

Australia will next play a five-match T20I series in India. Hence, many of them won't be returning home immediately.
