'This Is Even Bigger': Josh Hazlewood Calls WC 2023 Victory More Significant Than 2015's Triumph

On Sunday, in front of a mighty 1.3 lakh Indian supporters, Australia pulled off an upset against an in-form Indian team to lift their sixth World Cup title. The hero of the final was Travis Head, who smashed his second century in an ICC final in the last months; however, the bowlers, especially Josh Hazlewood, were no less.

Hazlewood bagged two timely wickets of Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra, as a result; the Men in Blue could only get to an under-par total of 240 runs.

In the chase, efforts from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami broke the opposition's top order, but resistance from Head and Marcus Labuschagne took Australia home at Ahmedabad.

After the victory, the two-time World Cup-winning seamer stated the victory in 2023 is even bigger than the triumph that came eight years ago at home.

"I think this is bigger. Obviously, we won at home in 2015 but coming to India and playing them and finishing was massive," Hazlewood told the host broadcasters.

Coming into the game, the Pat Cummins lead side was riding high on momentum, winning eight on eight after losing their first two league stage clashes to India and South Africa. Interestingly, the six-time champs outfoxed both the Men in Blue and the Proteas in the knockouts.
