Ahead of IPL 2024, Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin shed light on his relationship with Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson, describing it as akin to that of a younger brother and elder brother.

Ravi Ashwin and Sanju Samson were united by Rajasthan Royals after the mega auction in 2022. 

The duo bonded over their common cultural background. While Samson is a Keralite, Ashwin was born and raised in the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu. Naturally, the spinner and the skipper have it easier with respect to team bonding.

Meanwhile, ahead of the impending IPL 2024 season, the veteran Indian spinner opened up on his bond with Sanju Samson whilst admiring the latter's leadership skills. In a conversation with Star Sports, Ashwin reckoned Samson as a younger brother. 

He added the duo shares a very close bond and has nothing but the utmost respect for one another as professional athletes.

Furthermore, Ashwin heaped praise on Samson's leadership skills. Sanju, who was handed over the captaincy reins in 2021, led RR to multiple playoff finishes. 

The quality of Sanju Samson as a young and dynamic captain that Ashwin admires the most is his ability to differentiate and demarcate. In the eyes of the veteran spinner, to have that clarity at a young age is a phenomenal attribute.

"My relationship with Sanju Samson is like a younger brother, elder brother sort of it. I find Sanju as a young captain, he is able to differentiate, and demarcate both which is phenomenal," Ashwin said on Star Sports.

That said, Ashwin's praise for Samson's captaincy abilities underscores his respect and admiration for the young cricketer. It suggests that Ashwin views his fellow RR teammate's leadership qualities as exceptional and worthy of recognition.

With the new season on the horizon, expectations from RR will continue to soar. For Samson, the impending tournament holds the utmost significance as a potential slot for the T20 World Cup squad is on the line.
