In a heartwarming interaction with former Indian great Virender Sehwag’s son, Aryavir, Indian stalwart Virat Kohli recalled the circumstances during which he made his debut for the Indian senior cricket team back in 2008.

Virat Kohli, one of the greatest Indian cricketers to ever exist, started off his international career on a very humble note. Having triumphed in the U-19 World Cup as the captain, Kohli grabbed eyeballs early.

Moreover, in a surprise call-up, Kohli was named in the final squad for the Sri Lanka bilateral series. The batter had only eight first-class games under his belt in 2008. But the selectors showed faith in the kid.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli, recently recalled the circumstances that led to his unplanned debut. In a conversation with Virender Sehwag’s son Aryavir, Kohli revealed that Sehwag had just gotten injured a day before the ODI game against Sri Lanka. Moreover, amid a lack of options, the captain asked Virat if he would be comfortable opening the innings.

An enthusiastic Kohli, who was desperate to get a game, said yes to the offer and accordingly made his international debut on August 18, 2008. However, his celebrations were short, as he was dismissed off just 12 runs.

Meanwhile, recalling the eventful day, Virat said he was clueless in the middle as he was opening for the first time in professional cricket career. He wasn’t in sync with his surroundings, which unfortunately led to his early dismissal.

Furthermore, Aryavir asked Kohli to name his role models who inspired him to pursue cricket as a profession. The batter named legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar as his ultimate idol.

While Virat admired the likes of Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, and VVS Laxman, Sachin was the epitome of a successful cricketer for him.
