Islamabad United power-hitter Azam Khan blazed his way to a herculean slog-overs cameo against Babar Azam’s Peshawar Zalmi at the Rawalpindi Stadium.

Bashing 29 unbeaten runs off just 14 balls, the 25-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman even pummeled Zalmi’s premier strike-bowler Aamer Jamal for a near 100-meter six during his whirlwind knock.

Batting at number six, T20 batting barbarian Azam Khan made his way to the crease following the dismissal of captain and half-centurion Shadab Khan at 161-4. With just three overs remaining in the innings, Khan formed forces with overseas star Jordan Cox to blaze his side near the 200-run mark by the completion of their 20 overs.

The hard-hitting radical blasted 29* runs from just 14 balls, and even took a special liking to Peshawar Zalmi fast bowler Aamer Jamal during his whirlwind slog-overs affair.

At one point during the penultimate over of the Islamabad United innings, Azam Khan pummelled a huge 98-meter six straight over Jamal’s head.

Earlier in the match, Islamabad United lost England-based opening batsman Alex Hales off the very first ball of the innings at the hands of Peshawar Zalmi’s part-time spinner Saim Ayub.

Hales’ opening partner Colin Munro also made his way back to the sheds a while later as the United line-up slipped to 28-2 inside the powerplay. Fortunately for them, captain Shadab Khan led their recovery with a belligerent 80-run knock in the middle overs.

Shadab’s 80, coupled with Agha Salman’s 37 and slog-overs brilliance from Azam Khan and Jordan Cox, extended Islamabad United’s score to 196-4.
