On Friday, November 22, India will take on Australia at the Optus Stadium in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener. It is a crucial series for both teams from WTC's point of view. Meanwhile, India are already without regular skipper Rohit Sharma, who will miss the first Test after welcoming fatherhood for the second time.
Jasprit Bumrah will lead the side in the first game, and on the eve of the first Test, the two captains posed for the photoshoot and also addressed the press. Talking about Bumrah, he shed light on various topics such as Mohammed Shami's inclusion, Perth pitch, and embarrassing defeat against New Zealand.
Bumrah Reflects On Replacing Rohit As Captain For BGT
Meanwhile, a reporter tossed the idea of leading the Indian side for the entire BGT to Bumrah, to which the MI star bowler had a hilarious response.
"Nahi obviously, main Rohit ko aisa toh nahi bolunga ki main hi kar leta hun (Obviously, I won't tell Rohit that let me do the job for the whole thing) because he is our captain and he is doing a wonderful job. I am not looking it as one game because, in cricket, it's important to be in the present. Yes, right now it's one game and we don't know what will happen tomorrow, what will happen next game, things change, that's how cricket works," Bumrah told the reporters on the eve of the opening Test match in Perth.
Bumrah On Becoming Captain
"So, I am looking at it right now, I am in the present, I have been given a responsibility. I did it once as well and I enjoyed it thoroughly. At this moment, how can I contribute to the best of my capacity and be in this moment. I am looking forward to that responsibility, what happens in the future I can't control it. At this moment, I have been given a job and I'll try to do everything that's possible and give my best in that," he added.
Notably, Cummins also praised Bumrah leading the Indian side. However, the last time Jasprit India in Tests, it was against England and they suffered a defeat in that game.
