PCB Appoints Sumair Ahmad As Champions Trophy Director Amidst Fierce Tussle With India

Despite strong opposition from India, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are hell bent on hosting the entire ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan. Ahead of the schedule announcement, PCB appointed COO Sumair Ahmad as tournament director for the upcoming Champions Trophy.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) headed by Mohsin Naqvi vowed to entertain no compromise over hosting rights of Champions Trophy 2025. While the BCCI submitted an application for a hybrid model with the ICC, the PCB demands justification for India's potential withdrawal.  Both nations are at crossroads, pushing ICC into a fix. The apex body cannot interfere if the Indian government rejects a permit to travel to Pakistan.

However, PCB are in no mood to lower their guard until they get a written explanation from BCCI justifying the reasons behind the alleged security concerns.

Meanwhile, amid a standoff, PCB took a bold move to appoint Chief Operating Office of PCB, Sumair Ahmad as tournament director for Champions Trophy 2025. In the official statement, PCB mentioned that CT 2025 will be hosted in Pakistan and Sumair will overlook the smooth conduct of the mega ICC event. 

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will reflect Pakistan's ability to host world-class events, bringing players and fans to this place from all over the world to experience the country's love for cricket and renowned hospitality.

ICC issues warning to PCB

The ICC has allegedly issued a warning to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) requesting it not to release statements blaming India for snatching the Champions Trophy 2025 from their hands The tension between the two boards has gone up with both sides refusing to budge. The ICC reportedly nudged forward a hybrid model as an appealing deal to de-escalate hostilities. 

Additionally, the ICC has warned the PCB not to make inflammatory comments that would tension matters between them and the BCCI further. The global cricket body is working at ensuring that the Champion Trophy 2025 goes on without any hitch by not jeopardising its smooth execution nor key teams' participation.
