Rajasthan Royals head coach Rahul Dravid has confirmed that the franchise will not take any chances with skipper Sanju Samson’s fitness, as the star batter continues to recover from a side strain that has kept him out of action in IPL 2025.
Update On Sanju Samson's Injury
Speaking to the media ahead of RR’s must-win clash against Mumbai Indians, Rahul Dravid underlined the importance of a cautious and measured approach to manage Samson’s recovery.
Dravid confirmed that the team’s medical staff is monitoring Samson’s condition daily, with decisions on his availability being made on a match-by-match basis.
“Sanju is recovering well but we just have to take it day-by-day. It’s a side-strain and sometimes these side strains can be a bit tricky and we don’t want to harm him in the long run. We are monitoring it on a daily basis and we will see how it pulls up. Every day we get reports whether he is available or not so we will take it day-by-day and see how he goes but he is very well looked after" Dravid said.
How Did Sanju Samson Get Injured?
Sanju Samson sustained the injury during a high-intensity match against Delhi Capitals. The star batter was forced to retire hurt and miss the subsequent games against LSG, RCB and GT.
Despite RR breaking five-match losing streak with a crucial win over GT with significant contribution by a record-breaking century from Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The absence of their regular captain continues to be a major talking point.
Samson’s 2025 IPL campaign has been inconsistent due to his fitness concerns. He featured only as a specialist batter in RR’s opening matches, before returning to lead the team for three games midway through the season.
Now it will be interesting to see whether Samson is fully fit to return for the high-stakes encounter against MI. If is not available the leadership duties will remain with Riyan Parag.
Can RR Make It To The Playoffs?
As Rajasthan Royals’ playoff hopes hang by a thread, they must win all their remaining fixtures to stay in contention. Talking about RR they are currently at the 8th position in the points table with just three wins in 10 matches they have played so far.
