On May 1, Mumbai Indians (MI) announced a new addition to their squad. Raghu Sharma, a leg-spin bowler, has been brought in to replace Vignesh Puthur, who is out for the rest of IPL 2025 due to an injury. But wait, who exactly is Raghu Sharma?

Who Is Raghu Sharma?

Raghu Sharma was born on March 11, 1993, in Jalandhar, Punjab. He is a right-arm leg-spinner who has played domestic cricket for Punjab and Puducherry (Pondicherry).

He made his first-class debut for Punjab in the Ranji Trophy on October 14, 2017, and played his first T20 match for Puducherry on January 11, 2021, during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

When talking about his stats, the 31-year-old spinner has played 11 matches and taken 57 wickets at an average of 19.59 in the First-Class cricket (the longer format). In his overall first-class career, he already has five 5-wicket hauls and three 10-wicket match hauls, which shows he’s a serious wicket-taker.

Meanwhile, in List A cricket (50-over format), he has played 9 matches, picking up 14 wickets, with his best being 4/37 and he has played 3 matches and taken 3 wickets in the T20 format.

This will be Raghu Sharma’s first time playing in the Indian Premier League. Mumbai Indians signed him at his base price of ₹30 lakhs from the RAPP (Replacement Player Pool) list.

Mumbai Indians on a Comeback Streak

MI, the five-time IPL champions, had a rough start to this season, winning only 1 of their first 5 games. But things have turned around in style. They’ve now won 5 matches in a row, showing signs of the champion team they are known to be. Interestingly, whenever MI has won five straight matches in a season (4 out of 5 times), they’ve ended up winning the IPL trophy.

With Raghu Sharma now part of the squad, MI will hope he adds even more strength to their bowling attack.
