Sam Curran was in outstanding form as he scored his highest-ever IPL score against his former team, Punjab Kings (PBKS). However, his remarkable effort wasn't enough to stop Chennai Super Kings (CSK) from suffering another defeat at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday.
Curran, batting at No. 3, smashed an impressive 88 runs off 47 balls, hitting nine fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 187.23. His knock was the highlight of CSK's innings, where they managed to put up a total of 190 runs before being bowled out.
Despite challenging conditions, the English all-rounder stood firm, anchoring his side's recovery after they were struggling at 48 for 3 in the power play. His first half-century of the season came in the 15th over, and his celebration immediately caught everyone's attention.
Sam Curran Stuns PBKS With His Stellar Knock
After reaching his fifty, Curran made a phone call gesture towards the PBKS dugout, possibly signaling his frustration at not being retained.
Curran was eventually dismissed in the 18th over while attempting to duck under a bouncer from Marco Jansen, but not before providing a knock filled with grit and flair. However, his exit wasn't the end of the drama. On his way back to the CSK dugout, Curran appeared to exchange words with PBKS management and fans, possibly due to his past connection with the team as their former captain.
Thanks to Curran's performance, CSK managed to reach 190 in 19.2 overs. But when PBKS chased the target of 191, they successfully reached 194/6 in 19.4 overs, winning by four wickets.
Yuzvendra Chahal Sealed His Hat-Trick
Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal, who had been wicketless until the final overs, claimed a hat-trick to wrap up the CSK innings. Chahal took out MS Dhoni, Deepak Hooda, and Anshul Kamboj in quick succession, finishing with figures that helped PBKS secure the win.
With this loss, CSK is out of the playoff race and sits at the bottom of the standings, having won only two out of ten games. Meanwhile, PBKS is in second place with six wins and three losses.
