October 31 is the deadline day for IPL 2025 retention, and all ten teams are working behind locked doors to get their squad right. Meanwhile, reports are there that KKR are looking to release Shreyas Iyer.
As reported by Cricbuzz, Shreyas Iyer and KKR had a discussion, but the talks fell through as KKR were unhappy with Iyer's demands for higher pay.
Pathan Backs Shreyas Iyer
Meanwhile, former India opener turned analyst Irfan Pathan reflected on the rumour and issued a warning to the defending champions, remarking that it would be KKR's loss.
"If Shreyas Iyer isn’t retained after leading the team to an IPL title, it’d be a real loss. Hoping Delhi also works to keep Rishabh Pant—his potential as both a player and captain, along with his market value, is massive, " tweeted Pathan.
Notably, KKR were interested in retaining Shreyas Iyer, who did well with the bat last season and also led the side to their third title. However, KKR did not want Iyer to be their top retention, which is why the talks are likely to have fallen apart.
Pathan Slams Delhi Capitals
Not just Shreyas Iyer and KKR, but Pathan also spoke about Pant, who is touted to leave Delhi this year. Earlier, there were reports that the DC management wants Pant to continue as a player to ease off the pressure of Pant to focus on his batting, which it seems has not gone well with the keeper-batter.
Thus, several media houses have reported that Pant is sure-shot to be going under the hammer in the mega-auction in the last week of November 2024. It is likely that Pant might now be heading to CSK for the upcoming season.
