Andre Russell took to the nets for an intense training session, as per his latest social media feed. The broad-shouldered West Indies all-rounder shared a picture of his training routine on his Instagram story on October 31. Interestingly, Russell also accompanied his post with a cryptic caption.
Just a day ago, a report indicated that the West Indies cricketer is not on KKR’s agenda for retention ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. The Jamaican star was also joined by the likes of Mitchell Starc and IPL 2024 winning skipper Shreyas Iyer, as the franchise is reportedly eying a semi overhaul of its squad composition.
Russell shares cryptic post amidst release rumours
On October 31, i.e., on the day of IPL 2025 retention announcement, West Indies all-rounder and KKR zealot Andre Russell took to his Instagram account and shared a picture of his training routine. In the caption, the 36-year-old wrote:
“Loosening the shoulders!”
Several KKR fans are interpreting Andre Russell’s cryptic caption as his hidden response to the KKR team management as the franchise is reportedly contemplating a potential release of the all-rounder from the team.
Russell joined the KKR franchise back during the 2014 season of the IPL. To date, the cricketer has featured in 120 out of his overall 127 IPL matches for KKR alone, scoring nearly 2,500 runs in the process at a staggering strike rate of 174.92. With the ball, Andre Russell has collected 114 wickets for them and the all-rounder was part of an IPL winning team twice for the franchise, in 2014 and 2024.
On October 30, an ESPNCricinfo report indicated that the KKR team management will likely be releasing Andre Russell and Australian pace thunderbolt Mitchell Starc during the retention phase of IPL 2025. The report also added that IPL 2024 winning skipper Shreyas Iyer might also be parting ways from the franchise as the Indian batter is allegedly asking for a much higher salary.
