The highly-talent Mitchell Marsh has been handed the reins of Australia's T20I side for their upcoming three-match series in South Africa starting later this month. Marsh takes over from the successful Aaron Finch, who retired in February 2023, having led Australia to its maiden ICC T20 World Cup Title in 2021.

Interestingly, Marsh played a huge part in the  T20 WC 2021 Final scoring an unbeaten 77 off 50 against New Zealand, ensuring Australia's victory. Talking about his captaincy stint, Marsh explained how he never thought of donning the skipper's hat after being halted by injuries regularly.

Speaking to SEN Radio, the Delhi Capitals player stated that captaining Australia is his proudest moment to date.

Here's what Marsh said

"It's pretty crazy how it all works out. Very proud moment. Probably not something I'd ever thought I would do, but really looking forward to the opportunity of going to South Africa.

Guess I'm very proud that I've stuck at it, and been through a little bit of adversity through my career - through my own fault, mind you - but [it's] nice to be recognised in our group as a leader."

In 46 T20Is, the 31-year-old has scored 1,087 runs with six fifties and taken 15 wickets. Marsh also captained Australia's Under-19 side to glory in the ICC U19 World Cup in 2010.

The Perth-born heads into the three-T20I series with form on his side, having amassed 250 runs in three Tests in Ashes 2023 series. The first T20I takes place in Durban on August 30.
