Prithvi Shaw’s penchant for shots paid off for Northamptonshire in his maiden List A stint for the cricket club. In a Group B One-Day Cup home fixture, the cricketer brandished his bat at Somerset bowlers for nearly 50 overs to list a career-best 244.

Shaw crashed 11 sixes and 28 boundaries during his exhilarating 153-ball stay at the crease to rev-up the Northamptonshire innings to an intimidating 415-run total upfront.

Shaw hammers career-best score with ninth List A ton

Prithvi Shaw made his Northamptonshire debut this One-Day Cup 2023 season. The batting prodigy unfurled handy scores of 34 and 26 for his side in his first two appearances of the tournament, before finding his rhythm to pummel a career-best List A score of 244 against Somerset.

The innings marked Shaw’s ninth List A hundred, and his second double ton in the format after his 227* against Pondicherry from the 2021 Vijay Hazare Trophy game.

He raced to his century off the 81th delivery of his innings, and completed his double from 129 balls. Overall, the 23-year-old whacked 144 runs from the final 62 deliveries of his herculean knock.

Shaw eventually fell short of an all-time List A record score on English soil, set by former Surrey player Ali Brown with his 268-run epic back during 2002 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy.

The batting prodigy, who made his last appearance for Team India back in July 2021, might well have shot himself back to national reckoning through the course of his hurricane effort.

With a World Cup, and an Asia Cup around the corner, one can expect this sparkling young talent to get a callback into the national side.
